What Is GPRP?
GP Role Players (GPRP) was founded in February 2017 by Dr. Ramy Al-Rufaie, a General Practitioner based in Nottingham. Ramy qualified as a GP in Peterborough in July 2015. Later that year he began a 12 month GP academic fellowship, becoming junior training programme director for the GP training scheme in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. As part of this role, he began offering communication skills coaching to that scheme's GP trainees, particularly ST3 trainees preparing for their Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) examination (a requirement for successful completion of GP training, and an exam that Ramy himself sat and passed at his first attempt in early 2015).

Beginning in August 2016, Ramy also began using his contacts from the world of amateur dramatics as patient simulators for communication skills sessions for the Chesterfield GP scheme. GPRP was then formally established 6 months later, and our services are now being offered to both GP training schemes and GP trainees across the East Midlands.

What Services Can We Offer?
-
GPRP offers the services of a wide range of actors (of different ages/genders) as patient simulators for communication skills teaching sessions. We have already worked extensively with both the Sherwood Forest and (predominantly) Chesterfield GP training schemes in this regard, catering for Doctors at various stages of training. Our sessions have included both ones that are exam-focused, as well as more informal ones. We offer both half-day and full-day sessions, including (by request) some evenings and weekends. Though our work so far has primarily been with GP training schemes, we are also happy to accommodate requests from trainees who wish to arrange private, small group sessions, which we would be happy to tailor according to the individual trainees' needs.

-
Subject to his other work commitments, Dr. Ramy Al-Rufaie would be happy to serve as a facilitator for your teaching session(s) alongside the patient simulators.
-
Beginning in October 2017, GPRP will also begin holding its own mock CSA courses for GP trainees; please click on the 'Mock CSA' link above for more details on our upcoming course dates.
